under sky
This was conceived of a live multimedia work for my personal performance. The instruments used are piano, harpsichord, the Casio WK-3000, and tongue drum. In addition, there is a recorded tape part and slides presented on a slide projector. The tape part uses a wide array of materials from synthesized material to borrowed clips from old-time radio shows. The text of this work - given in the slides- is spoken by the Mac OS X speech synthesizer.

The concept for this work takes material from the i ching. “Under sky” refers to the first column in the consultation chart of the i ching, and each of the eight fundamental categories are placed under “sky” to reveal eight specific categories, as shown in the photo gallery below. “Sky” was used as the head category in this piece because it symbolizes “strength” and “creativity” - ideals I felt most connected with at the time of composition.

The photos in the slides were all taken by me in various locations including Tahiti, Florence, Venice Beach, Prospect Park, Lake Chautauqua, and Manhattan.

The audio track is from a live performance given at New York University.
